Will GENERAL HOSPITAL's Carly and Sonny take another chance on love?
This week on General Hospital, Christmas comes early for Carly as she becomes a force to be reckoned with in Port Charles, stepping on a few toes in the process. And although she and Sonny vow to move on with their lives, fate continues pushing them toward one another, and a shocking outburst makes it clear that there might just be a little hope for the formerly-weds yet!
Carly's Power Play
With 30 percent of ELQ stock in her hot little hands, Carly begins using her newfound power base to get what she wants and, as an added bonus, prove a certain ex-husband wrong about her. "Carly heard Sonny tell Jason how pathetic and needy she's become," explains her portrayer, Laura Wright.
Instantly, a new, more ruthless Carly is born. "Its almost a moment of, 'I will never go hungry again!'" says Wright, doing her best Scarlett O'Hara impersonation.
"That turns everything around," continues the actress. "She still loves Sonny and she still has to put her nose in his business, but its not for the same reason as before. It's not to get him but because he's in her life, she feels the need to control that."
With a little help from Luke, Carly uses the Quartermaines to get her hands on what she really wants: The Metro Court. But in the process, she learns just how badly she hurt Jax. "He says, 'Do you not realize my child is dead because of you?'" says Wright. "That's like a knife through the heart for her."
Sonny Rescues Carly
Learning that Jason is in desperate need of surgery, Carly uses her sexuality to convince the new doc Patrick to do the operation. At Jason's request, an emotional Carly goes to Jake's to shoot pool and take her mind off his medical crisis. But her concern can't be dodged, and she falls to pieces in Sonny's comforting arms. Aware that they share an emotional bond that can never be broken, both agree that they are poison to one another and should keep their distance. "These are really beautiful scenes about why they can't be together," sets up Wright. "It's a new beginning for Sonny and Carly," adds his portrayer, Maurice Benard.
Staying apart is easier said than done, however, when Carly is taken hostage by Manny, who is out to interfere with Jason's surgery. "She would die for Jason," proclaims the actress. Once again, Sonny is there to rescue the woman he once loved.
Does Emily Love Sonny?
With Jason on the mend, Carly has bigger fish to fry. Namely, Emily, whom she correctly suspects is falling under Sonny's spell. Fresh from pointing the finger at Emily, Carly fills in Sonny on what she believes is happening under his roof. "She doesn't want him with another woman," declares Wright. "Yes, it's going to happen, but it doesn't mean she has to like it! Do you think Sonny wants Carly to be with another man? How will it make him feel to think that another man is going to put his hands on her?"
Never one to let an opportunity pass her by, Carly offers Alcazar her full support when she learns that Diego's trial is about to begin &. Although not for the reason he might believe. After convincing Lainey to let her out of Rose Lawn to attend the trial - much to Alcazar's delight - she slips out of the courthouse and heads to the hospital where she fills in Jason on the Emily/Sonny situation. "A woman Sonny will eventually hurt who just happens to be Jason's sister? And if he breaks Emily's heart, that's going to cause a problem with Jason," says Wright. "They're all good arguments that she's happy to make because she doesn't want anybody else with Sonny anyway!"
Sonny's True Feelings?
Heading over to Sonny's pad, Carly gets into the whole situation with him, and before long, angry words are flying. Which, of course, is exactly when Alcazar walks in! Furious with his wife for using Diego's trial as an excuse to be with Sonny, Alcazar tries to take Carly away. But Sonny steps into the fray and apparently forgetting that she is no longer his, warns his rival to stay away from his wife! Has Sonny finally revealed his true feelings? And if so, could a reunion be ahead? It is a time for miracles!
