Sorry folks, Laura is just running a little late. The chat will begin shortly!
Laura Wright:
Hi everybody! Sorry I kept you waiting but I'm here now.
Pam
Was it hard to get into the character of Carly especially when there is so much history to the show with a lot of the original actors?
Laura Wright:
It wasn't hard. For some reason, I felt like the role was made for me. I just didn't want to take anything away from what the other actresses have brought to the role. I found it very challenging.
Jasmine from Jersey
Congratulations on doing an AMAZING job as the new Carly! You light up my screen everyday! You are an extremely talented actress and I am a huge fan and hope you stay on GH forever!
Laura Wright:
Wow! Thank you!
Mellie
Laura! Welcome to ABC, Welcome to General Hospital, Welcome to MY line-up!! I haven’t watched you since Loving. I miss Loving... I fed my babies breakfast to Loving; it was on at 10:30 am in Texas for years! You seem comfortable in your Carly Roberts role... I noticed GH is tossing you around testing your chemistry with all of the actors.... who, in the cast, are you feeling 'the click' with thus far? (male and/or female). Dana
Laura Wright:
That answer could get me into trouble! I think I have different chemistry with different people because of the different relationships. I love the Jason/Carly relationship and I have such a good time working with Steve. And I love the Jax/Carly relationship because it's a totally different dynamic because he's so funny. You get to see a funny side to Carly when she's with Jax - which you may not have seen yet. There's such a deep love between Sonny and Carly that I just love that relationship. So, I don't think I can pick any one relationship; I love how different they all are.
Debra
I thought I would never get over the lose of T.B. but I have to admit your going a great job or even better as Carly A. What were your expectations or worries upon taking on the role?
Laura Wright:
Thank you. I hope it doesn't sound arrogant to say but I really wasn't worried about the job I would do because I was so excited. I was more concerned about my personal life and moving my family across country. I had such bigger issues personally that I wasn't worried about the job. I played the same character for 8 years on GL and I was flattered to be offered such a great part on GH - an amazing show. I couldn't believe they wanted to cast me in the role and I'm having such a good time.
Kat
I think you've been doing a great job as the new Carly. I think that we, the viewers, buy you as Carly because you have her mannerisms down so well. Did you do any research into Carly's character habits/mannerisms or was it all natural for you?
Laura Wright:
All natural. I remember watching Sarah and maybe caught Tamara a couple of times because when she was on I was having my babies. But everything you've seen me do is just what I bring to the role.
Jacqueline
What's it like working with long time great actress Jackie Zeman? I just love the Carly/Bobbie story lines and you look great working with her. But has she been helpful towards you?
Laura Wright:
Unfortunately, there haven't been enough Carly/Bobbie scenes. I just walked into this and connected with Jackie immediately. It's such a great and tragic mother/daughter story. When it's in the writing it's there and when you have a great actor to work with, it all comes together.
Elisse
How did you tell everyone at GL that you were parting ways?
Laura Wright:
That was the hardest talk I ever had to have. There were a lot of tears. I still watch GL every day. I TIVO it. I miss everyone desperately and can't wait to see them when they come out for the Emmys. I left my family there in a sense so it was very hard.
Roni aka DivaLicious
You and Steve Burton have some smoking chemistry! Would you like to see a Carly and Jason thing or do you think they are better to remain friends? I kind of want to see them in love. Keep up the good work Laura! We are loving you as our Carly!
Laura Wright:
Thank you! Love hearing that people are happy with what I'm doing. I'm glad people don't hate me and want me booted. I love working with Steve and I think the Carly/Jason friendship is so strong and powerful that you'd mess it up if you put them together. But I also think there could be a day when if they were both leaving town then they should have fallen in love and leave together.
Alicia
Since Courtney is dead, who do you think should be Carly's new friend? You did a good job crying over Courtney, a lot of snot, did you learn that from Tyler?
Laura Wright:
No, I didn't learn that from Tyler - that would be 8 years of working with Kim Zimmer on GL!
I'd like to be friends with Elizabeth because I love working with Becky. I don't know. There's not too many females she could be friends with. Patrick, the doctor, is pretty cute. He could be my friend.
stillafan2gh
Laura I was not sure how you would do taking the role as my beloved Carly character, but I have to say you have did a fabulous job so far. I enjoy the Carly character again. Thanks for the great job. Could you tell me what you think the hardest character you have ever portrayed would be and why?
Laura Wright:
By far, Carly. It's really hard to come in and be a recast and then because there's so many levels to Carly, it's hard. She wears so many hats with different people. When I'm in scenes with Jax I feel like she tries to be more of a lady. When she's with her mom she's like a little girl. With Robin she goes to the white trash place and wants to rip her head off. But she's a lot of fun to play.
Christina
hello Laura,
Since you are a very talented actress who is YOUR favorite actress?
Laura Wright:
That's a tough one. I don't know. I love Susan Sarandon. I think Robin Wright is great. And yes, I get that I look like her a lot but we're not related. I think Reese Witherspoon is awesome. But I don't have one favorite because there are so many great ones that it's hard to pick just one.
Kelly
I think that Carly shouldn't go by the name Carly Alcazar or Carly Corrrrrinthos. I believe Carly should change her last name to Spencer and she should find her own identity away from the mob. Do you wish Carly drove her own storylines and not a Jason/Jason's girl of the year/Sonny/Carly storyline
Laura Wright:
No, because I think that Jason and Sonny are a part of who she is. They’re her family. She doesn't want to change her last name because her children are Corinthos. She said that in a scene - that she wants her name to be the same as her boys. She will always be connected to Jason and he will always be the most important man in her life. And Sonny is the father of her children. I think she can have her own life and her own story but it's a huge part of her life that she gets the phone call that Jason or Sonny need her and she drops everything for them.
Brenda
How did you like Evening With The Stars? Was that the first time you met people from GH? Did you have any great first impressions with any of the people who attended the event?
Laura Wright:
It was the first time I met a lot of people from GH. IT was my first west coast event. I had a blast! I'm always up for a great charity with a lot of good people and fans who want to support it.
Elisse
Do you feel "at home" yet on the show, or have you not reached that comfort level?
Laura Wright:
I totally feel at home. When I came back from Christmas vacation it felt like home.
Claire
I loved you as Cassie and when I heard you were going to be Carly, I knew my favorite character was in great hands. I loved the chemistry of you and Ted King on The City and you still have it for sure on GH, will Carly and Lorenzo be exploring a relationship further in the future?
Laura Wright:
Not in the near future. He's got his hands fully with Skye. I would jump at the chance to work with Ted again because he's a great guy to work with.
Kat
Some of the other actors on the show have been around for a long time and are so well known like the greats Geary and Zeman. Were you star struck or a little nervous at all?
Laura Wright:
Definitely. Working with Tony for the first time was mind blowing. And then all of the Quartermaines, just crazy.
Melissa
The message boards at various sites can get pretty vicious sometimes. How do you deal with personal attacks by people who don't even know you? By the way, you're doing a great job as Carly. I haven't enjoyed the character this much in years, if ever!
Laura Wright:
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I deal with the message boards by not reading them. Now, if I can only get my mom to stop then I wouldn't have to know every bad thing that's said about me!
Caitlin
Will Corbin be back soon? Love to see Carly have a story with her father!
Laura Wright:
I would love to have a story with Corbin. I think it would be fantastic but I think he's off on another show right now.
Kori
Hi Laura, you are doing great as Carly! I was wondering how do you feel about a possible Carly and Jax love story? I think you and Ingo have AMAZING chemistry.
Laura Wright:
I love working with Ingo and if people keep watching they'll see a blooming relationship between those two!
Charity
Why does Michael have no problems with Sonny's women? But doesn't want his mother with anyone?
Laura Wright:
Because he's just like his father! (laughing) He's a red-head Sonny Corinthos.
Debra
How do you feel about being a character that everyone loves to hate?
Laura Wright:
I LOVE it! It's the most fun I've ever had.
Linda
Do you think that Carly and Lucas will be getting closer soon? I have been a Carly fan since Sarah began the role and I always wanted her to get closer to her brother. I also wanted to tell you I just love your parts with Luke.
Laura Wright:
I'd love to have scenes with my brother. I don't think I've had one since I started. They would be awesome, especially now that Tony's gone. I love working with Tony, too.
CC
Is Carly going to have more scenes with her kids soon? I'd love to see some mommy and me stuff with Morgan.
Laura Wright:
Yeah, I have some stuff coming up. Definitely, but all daytime mothers suck and Carly happens to really suck! (laughing) But it is what it is.
Bess
Hey Laura! You're doing such a great job on the show. I wanted to know who was most welcoming when you started? Who has been the biggest help to you?
Laura Wright:
Alicia came up and shook my hand on the first day. Ted has been awesome and everyone else has just kind of fallen into place.
Debbie
Do you get a say with the writers as far as what you would like see happen with your character?
Laura Wright:
Not really. It's not my job to write the show.
Daphne
I'm interested in knowing what Carly will do when she finds out the real paternity of Courtney's son. I'm really hoping that she will honor Courtney's last hope and tell Nikolas the truth. Is it possible that might happen? Thanks.
Laura Wright:
Well, Carly has her own issues with keeping paternity secrets. I have no idea how they're going to choose to write that and play that card. I'm still waiting to find out when Carly is going to have sex next! (laughing)
Marti
Laura, how are you adjusting to the life style in LA? I know it's got to be different than NY?
Laura Wright:
You can't beat the weather here. It was 71 today and it was 16 degrees in New York. I don't know if I'll stay here forever but I'm having a good time while I'm here.
Sharlane
What is your favorite thing about Carly & your least favorite?
Laura Wright:
My favorite thing is her gusto for life and her ability to walk into a room and demand attention. It's completely obnoxious but how fun is it? You certainly can't say she's boring. My least favorite thing is how desperately she needs to be loved by a man but it's who she is.
Rosà
I really enjoy the Carly/Robin rivalry. But do you think in the future they'll ever bury the hatchet?
Laura Wright:
What fun would that be? Probably not but we may end up stuck together and have to help each other.
Amber
Robin, Sam, and Emily are standing in a row. Carly has them cornered with ONE cream pie. Whose face does she throw it in?
Laura Wright:
Right now, I'd probably go right for Emily. I don't even have to think about it.
Rebecca
How are you able to do the timed teardrop? It's been something I've been dying to know since I first watched you as Cassie.
Laura Wright:
Again, 8 years of working with Kim Zimmer! I don't know. It's just one of those things.
Laura Wright:
I don't plan that at all. People ask how I cry so well and I just say that if I'm talking about something sad then of course I'm going to cry.
Lori
I think you have the most gorgeous hair! What brand of hair products do you use? You hair looks very thick like mine and your texture also reminds me of my hair! You are an awesome actress, love you has the new Carly, better than the past ones. Keep up the good work
Laura Wright:
I have a brand to plug! I use the satin shampoo by Kerastasse and the masque conditioner I also use.
YorkFan
Hi Laura, I think you are doing a fantastic job as Carly! I was wondering how you prepared to take over the role? Did you go back and watch tapes of the previous actresses? And how did you learn all of Carly's history? I was very impressed with your scenes with Jackie Zeman yesterday, regarding Tony & Carly's past! It felt like you had been playing the part the entire time!
Laura Wright:
I didn't study her history before I started. I knew her history because of watching Sarah years ago but I hadn't done any other research.
Mary
Carly's kissed a lot of guys since you came to GH, who was the best?
Laura Wright:
When I did the flashback with Carly and Jason, my knees got weak and I didn't think I was going to be able to walk out of the room. After 14 years of working in daytime, Steve Burton kissed me and I was like, wow! I've kissed everyone a few times but him only once.
Kate
What is your dream Story for Carly?
Laura Wright:
It would be a dream to play a story with Durant, my dad.
Elisse
I took one of those quizzes on abc.com to see which character I am most like and it is Carly. Which character on the show do you think you are most like in real life? Why?
Laura Wright:
You shouldn't admit to that! (laughing) I think I am probably most like Elizabeth because she likes her child and chooses to spend time with him.
CBSaddict
Laura... I want to start off by saying that I think you are a WONDERFUL actress with so much potential to be a legend! I would like to know, however, how was the transition from GL to GH? The characters are somewhat different, and as an aspiring actress, I would like to know if you found difficulty changing roles
Laura Wright:
Again, the personal change was far more difficult than work was. But certainly, coming on to play another role was extremely challenging. Working with a whole different cast on a whole different show was definitely difficult.
Annalisa
Will you be at Super Soap Weekend this year? I know it's a few months away.. but will you?
Laura Wright:
If they want me to go back I will absolutely will!
lost
Do you ever visit the ABC Message Board to check in on how the fans feel?
Laura Wright:
I have to say that all of my fans have been as great as everyone has been on this chat right now. I haven't had any bad fan experiences at all. I think the GH fans are awesome!
Aya
First off, let me praise you on doing such a wonderful job. You have such energy and passion, which exudes in each scene you are in. You have captured this character and you are running with it. My question is what part(s) of yourself do you see in Carly? And if there were anything you can change about Carly what would it be? Thank you L for all that you have done in the role so far and what you will do in the future.
Laura Wright:
I would change her neediness to have to be with men. I see her humor and her childlike nature in myself. So, I had to find a way to bring that in.
Laura Wright:
Thank you everyone so much for taking the time to ask me questions and I hope I will continue to entertain you and that you like everything coming up. Thank you so much for your support and for watching!
