For Laura Wright, the chance to work again with Ted King was the icing on the Carly cake. "I adore him," enthuses Wright. "I can't say enough about him. You work with a lot of actors over the years and they all aren't great. But some definitely stand out.
"He was the first person to call me to say congratulations," continues Wright. "Carly was still married to [Lorenzo] when I came on, and my first real speaking scenes were with him. That took a lot of pressure off. He's still exactly the same guy [I knew on The City ]. I can go hang out in his dressing room and talk to him about absolutely anything. And if I know he's going to an event and I'm not going with my husband, I'll call and say,'I'm going with you!'"
Wright recalls her first impressions of King when they met on Loving before it morphed into The City. "I remember clearly that he was such a good actor that we weren't surprised when they wanted to change the character and offer him a contract. When you get a good actor on the show you do what you can to keep them. Our scenes were pretty risque. I remember doing one scene when [Ally] was drunk, and a couple of scenes where I was just in my bra and underwear. One time I had to do a shower scene and he was supposed to be spying on me in the shower. I never felt awkward with him because he's so protective of any woman he works with."
Wright adds that fans would probably be surprised to know that King "is as caring and charming as he is. Everyone has an ego, but his is definitely healthy. He is a very considerate man and he sees the whole picture instead of just seeing himself. That is really hard to find in an actor. The woman who lands this guy is going to be very lucky."
