The Wright Stuff!

Thumbs Up!

Carly isn’t a role that anyone can walk into, mainly because of its complexity: Carly’s not quite a heroine, nor a flat out villainess. Sarah Brown was memorable as the formidable troublemaker. She seemed irreplaceable until Tamara stepped right in and claimed the role as her own. But her replacement, Jennifer Bransford, quickly got the hook. Enter Laura Wright, who offers just the right amount of humor, heart and chutzpah to portray PC’s most infuriating female.

Wright has the acting chops, but the GH scribes get credit too. Rather than throw her immediately into the fire like her predecessor, the writers wisely incorporated a slow build by a) having her off-screen for several weeks b) weaving her into the train wreck , a central storyline involving nearly the entire cast and c) retaping “Flashbacks” to give Wright’s incarnation a past that, while admittedly jarring at first, ultimately proved effective.

Recasting core characters is always a gamble and fortunately for GH fans, this one paid off!
