Mom's The Word
Guiding Light's LAURA WRIGHT (Cassie) gave birth to her second child, John Michael, in December 2000. Recently, the actress returned to work and is portraying a still-pregnant Cassie. CBS.com caught up with Laura and asked about her new bundle of joy, her little girl and her secret to getting back into shape so fast!
CBS.com: Congrats on your baby boy!
LAURA WRIGHT: Thank you. He's awesome!
CBS.com: How is your little girl, Lauren, doing? Has she accepted her new brother?
LAURA WRIGHT: She loves him to the point where I have to keep her away from him. [She says,] "I'll help. I'll feed him." No, you can't. "Hi, Baby John." That's all she says to him. Or, "Baby John is crying." But she absolutely adores him. And if she wants some time for herself she'll go, "Put Baby John down here." And she'll point to his little seat. And then I'll say, "Do you want me to put him down and come play with you?" And then I do it because she asks me nicely and she's never showed one nasty thing towards him!
CBS.com: When was your first day back to work at GL?
LAURA WRIGHT: I came back to work on the 29th of January.
CBS.com: Has it been hard being away from your babies?
LAURA WRIGHT: No, because it's only been two days a week. [But now I'm starting] four days a week for the next six weeks. That's going to be hard!
CBS.com: Is it difficult to be playing pregnant on the show when you're not pregnant anymore?
LAURA WRIGHT: People say, "Is it hard?" It's like, no, because I can take off [the pillow] and go home! It feels great not to be pregnant anymore. At the end of [a pregnancy] you're really dying to get your own body back. You're done with being an incubator.
CBS.com: How did you take off the baby weight so fast?
LAURA WRIGHT: Nursing. That's the key. And I still have ten pounds to lose. It's driving me absolutely insane. No one else seems to mind, but it's driving me crazy.
CBS.com: Well, you look great!
LAURA WRIGHT: Thanks. All in due time. I've got a lot of work to do, but I'm not going to kill myself trying to get a hundred percent back to where I was and let it interfere with my work or my family time. So whatever happens, happens.
CBS.com: How old are you now?
LAURA WRIGHT: I turned 30 in September.
CBS.com: I remember when you told me that you didn't want to start trying for another child until after you were 30!
LAURA WRIGHT: That was the plan. I actually was talking to my husband the Sunday before I found out [I was pregnant]. We were coming back from a wedding, which I thoroughly enjoyed myself at in the alcohol department not knowing I was five weeks pregnant! And on the way home I said to my husband, "I think I really want to have another baby." He was like, "I don't know." The next day, for some reason, something told me to go and get a pregnancy test. I did and I called my husband and said, "Remember our conversation yesterday?" I was five weeks pregnant and I had no idea!
