At Home With Laura Wright
At Home With The Stars - Laura Wright GL
Laura Wright (Cassie GUIDING LIGHT) and John Wright's lovely log cabin home sits on 10 acres in Pennsylvania, about 90 minutes from New York City. John, an architect, didnt design the house, which is 20 years old, but he is responsible for almost all of the eclectic interior décor, as well as the landscape.
The couple spend a lot of time outside; inside, most of their time is passed in "the big room," which includes the living area, the dining area and the kitchen, all open to one another. The view from the hot tub, perched on a deck, is the same view from the living room window.
Laura and John discovered the house by chance. Three years ago, "We were just driving around in the area," she says, "and saw a 'For Sale' sign down a really long, terrible, unpaved road and followed it. There was this log house for sale on a cliff overlooking a river. We fell in love with it immediately."
MY FAVORITE THINGS:
The dining-room table is at an angle, but for a specific reason: "It wouldn't fit the other way," Laura says with a laugh. "But we also wanted it to stand out and really look different." It's one of her favorite possessions. "It's 200-year-old Spanish oak that was made into a table and chairs. It's 100 percent original " there's no other table like it." Another of Laura's beloved pieces is the armoire in the nursery. "I bought it from a guy in New York and got it really, really dirt cheap. I don't think the person who sold it to me knew what he was selling. The beveled glass, I couldn't even replace it if it broke."
Laura says John does most of the decorating but I do all the sheets, the comforters and the pillows."
