The Royal Treatment

Cassie didn't have it so easy when she first came to Springfield. Now, the ex-stripper has found her Prince Charming in Richard - literally! (So what if he is her sister Reva's ex-husband?) During a visit to the Guiding Light studio, CBS.com chatted with Laura Wright about the overwhelming fan response to San Cristobel's royal couple-to-be, Cassie and Richard.

CBS.com: Are you surprised by Cassie and Richard's popularity?

LAURA WRIGHT: Are they really that popular? They like us?

CBS.com: Oh, yeah. The majority of the viewers we hear from can't get enough of the two of you.

LAURA WRIGHT: It's so funny because when you're here, you're working all day long and you are trying to make it funny, and romantic, and sweet. Bradley and I have a tendency to really play the humor, and we want to because you don't really get to see it on daytime that much. We work very hard at timing everything perfectly. That's the key in comedy. So we want to time it right and not lose the tenderness of the characters.

CBS.com: Well, I think it's working. Everyone is getting to live vicariously through Cassie.

LAURA WRIGHT: It's very funny because like I said, we're in here from 8 to 8. I think once we're not working as much and we actually go somewhere and get recognized it will be like, "Wow, people like us, I guess." We're here so much that we don't notice how popular we're getting because we're not out there yet. It's all really starting to happen right now. A lot of funny stuff is coming up.

CBS.com: What's up with Cassie getting the measles of all things?

LAURA WRIGHT: [Laughs] Well, you know. It happens. Obviously, she didn't get her shots when she was being adopted and thrown around. It's a soap opera. People come back from the dead, so she can get the measles! And it's just one more thing. Do you want Cassie and Richard together yet? No. You've got to play it out. It's like, "The measles? Are you kidding me?" It's kind of funny because here is this girl who is doing everything she can to look attractive and be sexy and she's got dots on her face! And she's also trying to really keep herself away from him, and then here he is, "I'm going to take care of you," and she's like, "Oh, my God. Not only do I not want you to see me like this, I don't want you near me period." So it's kind of funny. And then the whole chili thing. It's hysterical. He flies Buzz down& Everyone can make fun of it, but they would do anything to have a guy do that for them.

CBS.com: Those were some really funny scenes when Cassie was trying to make Richard want her.

LAURA WRIGHT: We couldn't even get through those scenes in rehearsal. Every time we were running our lines we were peeing our pants laughing because it was so funny. So funny. We just have lots of funny and sweet stuff coming up and it's great. I really hope they continue with it. I think they have something really good with these characters. The reality is that we're really have a great time doing this. We're telling a story and it's a fairytale, so it's not always going to be real, but would you want it to be? It's wonderful and it's fun. There are times when we're doing a scene and I get butterflies in my stomach because you just think, "Oh, my God. Who wouldn't want this?" It truly is magical. We're having a blast and we're hoping the audience is enjoying it because we're really enjoying doing it.

CBS.com: Trust me, the fans are loving it.

LAURA WRIGHT: Well, good. We are loving every script we get. Bradley and I work extremely hard to make it just right. Maybe we're not always going to hit it perfectly, but we do try extremely hard to make it work. We don't want to drop the ball. We don't want to disappoint the audience. We're hearing how much that they love it, so every day becomes a challenge to make it as good as the last.

CBS.com: Cassie and Richard are definitely giving Michelle and Danny a run for their money.

LAURA WRIGHT: Well, you know. That's what Paul [Anthony Stewart, Danny] gets for going with another woman!

CBS.com: Well, at least you got a prince!

LAURA WRIGHT: I've got the prince and [Joie Lenz, Michelle] got the mobster.

CBS.com: Are you good friends with Bradley off the set?

LAURA WRIGHT: Occasionally we'll get a drink or dinner after work if we work late, but not really because we see each other all day long here. Right now, I'm seeing him more than my husband and my daughter, so I don't really need to see him anywhere else! I'm sure he feels the exact same way about me. But what time we do spend together is very fun. There is definitely a respect between the two of us, but yet a respect of letting the other person be who they are and laugh. We just find ourselves laughing constantly from the time we get into the rehearsal room until we finish are scenes. We always look at each other at the end and go, "Well, I felt like that sucked." But then we say you're never as bad as you think you are, but you're never as good as you think you are. Everyone makes fun of us - "You guys get along so well and you laugh and it's always like there is this secret between the two of you." But it's this tie that we sink or swim together. These scenes are going to work for the both of us, or they're not going to work for us. When I see him struggling, I'll go, "What's up? Is there anything I can do to make it better?" And vice versa. If he sees me struggling he's like, "What's going on?" We want to keep this vibe between the two characters.

CBS.com: So will Cassie be staying in San Cristobel?

LAURA WRIGHT: I hope so. Why not? Give up the castle? Are you kidding me? Would you want to leave the castle?

CBS.com: Well, no, but eventually Cassie and Richard are going to have to come back to Springfield.

LAURA WRIGHT: To visit. [Laughs]
