Delirious Cassie RevealsTrue Love for Late Hubby
As Richard tends to the measle-suffering Cassie today on "Guiding Light," her fear that her secret might slip out in her delirium prompts her to take off."She runs away and passes out on the ground," previews Laura Wright, who plays Cassie. "Richard finds her and stays by her bedside. She's out of it and says, 'I love you.' When she wakes up, he says, 'You said that you love me!' and she says, 'I thought you were [my late husband] Hart.'" "Ouch!" chimes in Richard's portrayer, Bradley Cole. God forbid Cassie would let her own fiancé know that she loves him. But that's the beauty of this old-fashioned love story. Prince Richard needs a Princess and the widow Cassie needs security for her kids. The fact that they have fallen in love is incidental to their arrangement.
"Richard already had the measles, so he's been right by her side, day and night," says Cole. "Somewhere along the way he had this epiphany and realized that he's in love with Cassie. Therein lies the humor and the drama."More humor than drama. "Yes, he's always having these weird fantasies," acknowledges the actor with a laugh.Despite all the fantasizing that each is doing about the other, the wedding is proceeding as "a platonic device, a contractual marriage, without any big ideas of romance and fanfare," says Cole, adding that it will be called off next week after Cassie overhears that her illness may have left her unable to bear a royal heir.
In his efforts to get her to change her mind, Richard will impulsively grab Cassie and kiss her."And then they'll be interrupted again," reports Cole cheerfully. "Just as he's about to tell her he loves her, something happens. The more she's protesting, the more he doubts that she cares for him at all. They can't get it together, which is kind of funny."
And very soapy.
