Laura's New Role -- Cassie Layne!

"I always said that if anything ever happened to LOVING or THE CITY, my first choice for another job would be GUIDING LIGHT, because it's got a lot of soul," says Laura Wright (ex-Ally). As it turns out, her wish has been granted: The actress has just been cast in the pivotal role of Reva's long-lost sister, Tracy Layne. (Note to readers: the name was changed to Cassie afterwards)

"She's a wonderful character, and totally different from Ally," an excited Wright enthuses. "She is going to be very street-smart, very guarded, much more defensive than Ally and much more tough. At the same time, though, I think she'Il have a heart of gold."

GL Executive Producer Paul Rauch, for one, is confident that Wright will be able to capture all of Tracy's many facets. "She's wonderful!" he praises. "I think Laura's got everything: She's sexy, she's a good actress, she's got strength. And I think she'Il be a good foil for Kim (Zimmer, Reva)"

Wright thinks so, too. "I did my screen test with Kim, and we had a great time. It was just a lot of fun; we both got on-set, did our stuff and that was that. I tested on a Thursday and found out that I got the part on Friday." Details about the character are sketchy. Set sources predict that she'Il be introduced to Springfield via Alan, much the same way big sister Reva came on back in 1983. And since Tracy won't be seen until late July, the writers still have time to do some last-minute tinkering.

Nevertheless, Wright has one prediction that you can take to the bank: "I've been told that I'm coming on in a very interesting way ......"
