My Love Story

After ten years of makeups and breakups, Laura Wright (Cassie) found her real life prince right before her eyes. The Wrights dated on and off for a decade before tying the knot on October 7, 1995.

Guiding Light's Laura Wright (Cassie) is just as in love with her husband, John, today as she was when they first dated in high school. "We knew we would either get married too young, or ruin it altogether with an argument," she recalls. "We never actually committed to each other." Here's how, a decade later, the former Ms. Sisk ended up with her Mr. Wright.

The Run-Ins
The actress moved to Manhattan to star on LOVING and John was a graduate student back in Maryland, but they kept running into one another whenever Wright visited home. "I wouldn't go to one part of town because I knew John would be there. So I'd go somewhere else completely, and he would be there!" she laughs. "I'd see him, and it was like no one else was in the room. The way he looked at me would truly take my breath away. We'd stay together long enough to make sure we were still head over heels in love, then go do our own thing."

The Reunion
One June day, having not spoken to John in three years, a recently single Laura dialed up her old beau. "He had just stopped seeing the person he was with, too," she notes. "John said he knew when I called him that he was going to marry me."

A two-hour conversation led to a dinner date for the couple, who has been inseparable ever since. "I remember sitting on the couch after dinner, and we were very nervous around each other. I guess we knew this time it was serious!" laughs Wright. "That was a Sunday night. I went back to New York for Monday and Tuesday, came home to Maryland on Wednesday and saw John that night. We became a married couple instantly."

The Proposal
Three weeks later, they were engaged. "He was visiting me one weekend and as we were talking, I couldn't get over what a wonderful person he was," she smiles. "I said, 'I'd marry you tomorrow. You are the nicest guy.' And that was it. He said 'Marry me.' John proposed all weekend long, but I wouldn't believe him!"

Things finally sank in the next morning. "John was getting ready to go back to Maryland when my mom called. He was like, 'Tell her I asked you to marry me!' When you tell your mom& its final!" Wright laughs.

The Wedding
They planned to exchange vows the following June --- but as predicted by those around them who knew that John and Laura wouldn't be able to wait that long, the ceremony happened much sooner. "Everything just fell so perfectly into place, we ended up getting married three months later, at this old plantation house on the water."

The Marriage
Still, the Wrights can't bear to be apart. "We won't go longer than two days without seeing each other. And that's even pushing it," she confides. "Marriage is difficult. John and I are complete opposites, and that's where it's been such a growing, learning experience. You have and you are each other's strengths and weaknesses. And that's what makes it so wonderful."
