Oh Danny Boy!
You know you're in trouble when your own mother shoots you. But Danny's luck takes a turn for the better this week on Guiding Light when Cassie stumbles onto the injured mobster.
"She finds him on the beach," says Laura Wright, who plays Cassie. "Cassie is on the beach saying goodbye to [her late husband] Richard. She's getting drunk and having a pity party when she hears a gunshot. She goes toward it for some stupid reason. Lightening strikes, and she sees this body half in and half out of the water - its Danny."
Cassie drags Danny to a cave, where he comes to and begs her not to tell anyone where he is. "He says, 'No one can know I'm here, they'll kill me,'" says Wright. "Cassie tries to stop the bleeding with her shirt, and of course she has on a sexy tank top underneath. They are trying to parallel that Cassie is helping Danny because she couldn't save Richard: 'You will not die! I won't lose someone else!' I can buy that because Cassie isn't just going to just let someone lie there and die."
Indeed the scrappy widow breaks into Ed's clinic to steal medical supplies for her pal. "She's stealing gauze and band-aids and Ed walks in," say Wright. "She's like, "Hi! I can't tell you why I need these, just trust me. Isn't that what the clinic is for? So people can come in and not have to answer questions?'
"Ed helps her, but he says, 'Being helpful and being foolish are two different things. If you get to the point where you need a doctor, call me.' She says 'Thank you' and runs off."
When Cassie gets back to the cave, though, Danny is gone.
"She goes to [his estranged wife] Michelle's house to look for him, and when she opens the door, Cassie's like 'Hi! How are things?' as she's looking around for a dead body," says Wright. "Obviously, he's not there. She leaves and bumps into Reva and she starts this whole 'Can't we be sisters again?' talk, and Cassie goes, 'I can't deal with this.' She goes home and finds Danny struggling to get into the cellar of the Beacon. She takes him downstairs, and he says, 'I don't want your help!' 'Then why did you come to my doorstep?' He gets delirious and starts talking to Cassie like she's Michelle so she lets him."
So is romance brewing between Cassie and Danny?
"Not now," responds Wright. "When Danny comes out of hiding, he's like, 'Thanks for saving my life. Where's Michelle?'"
