Mourning A Friend

CBS Soaps In Depth November 5, 2002

The fact that Cassie now spends most days in tears aside, things around the set haven't been the same for Laura Wright since Bradley Cole's exit as Richard in June. "I was so invested in the Richard/Cassie relationship," she sighs. "The fact that this man has died is so sad." Wright defers credit for the intense, emotional scenes she's played over the past few months to the show's writing staff. "It's on the page," she insists. "They're giving me the words to say. I'm no ad-libbing. It's so sad for me to think of Cassie without Richard that it's not hard [to act the scenes]." Often, Wright's found that just because the cameras have stopped rolling doesn't mean she can flip off her inner sad switch. "It's hard for me to shake it when I leave here, because it's incredibly draining. And," she adds, thoughts turning to Cole, "my friend isn't here anymore! I don't have a partner to hang out with every day. So there's a whole emotional tie off-camera that's affected as well. It's been very sad."
