While some older children may be emotional, defensive, and perhaps even bratty around their younger siblings, GUIDING LIGHT's Laura Wright (Cassie) has found the exact opposite to be true about the relationship her 4-and-a-half-year-old, Lauren, has with 2-and-a-half-year-old John. Yet the fact that her daughter is rather protective of her little brother doesn't surprise Wright in the least.
"She's a wonderful big sister," enthuses Wright of her daughter. "Lauren is so good to him. If he's fallen asleep, and I'm talking, she'll say, 'Shh. Baby John's sleeping.' And he just thinks she's the greatest thing."
Yet for as well as her children get along, Wright still has her hands full with her twosome. "Lauren does get jealous for attention," admits Mom. "She might dance around the room or stand up on something she's not supposed to so that she can get as much attention as he's getting. Like when John first started walking, it was always, 'Come here, come here,' to him, and Lauren would be on the other side of the room screaming, 'Look what I can do!' But she's never been aggressive towards him."
If anything, Lauren will let her little brother take out his aggressions on her. "My son will hit her in the head, and Lauren just sits there!" laughs Wright. "But then there're times where Lauren will take things from John when they're playing. She'll say, 'I want that now,' and he'll scream at her. We all laugh - we totally shouldn't do that - but it's so funny because he's fighting back at her."
In her children, the actress sees a perfect combination of both herself and her husband, John. "Lauren's personality is more toward mine, and Baby John has more of my husband's temperament. He's very laid-back, everything's funny, nothing really bothers him, but when something does, it does. When he's not feeling well, or he's tired, that's it. And that's the way my husband is," she explains. "Whereas Lauren and I are just in your face!"
"I just look at them and go, 'Wow,'" concludes Mommy with a smile. "Lauren is just a joy to have in the household, and John is a sweet little boy."
